Approximately sixty-two (62) members of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the province of Tawi-Tawi benefited from the Technology Fora Caravan, spearheaded by the Bangsamoro Government’s Ministry of Science and Technology under the Technology Application and Promotion Section (TAPS).
The 6th leg of the caravan, held from August 27 to 28, 2024, aimed to provide prospective technology adopters in the region with access to technology and innovation resources. The caravan offered participants the opportunity to explore various technological tools, equipment, and services that can enhance their business operations and boost their competitiveness in the market.
The Technology Fora Caravan focused on providing training for MSMEs, with an emphasis on food safety, halal practices, and seaweed processing technologies. It equipped participants with knowledge and skills, helping them understand the application of technology to their specific business needs. This initiative also underscored the importance of adhering to guidelines set by the Food and Drug Administration, ensuring that food products are of high quality and safe for consumption.
Ms. Bea Hannah Midtimbang-Unggui and Ms. Samera Gumandel delivered lectures on Food Safety Concepts and Halal Concepts and Principles, respectively, directly addressing participants’ questions during their sessions. The forum facilitated discussions on various aspects of food safety and halal practices. Participants then engaged in a lecture and demonstration by Assistant Professor Meri Lyn Amlani from MSU-Tawi-Tawi College of Technology and Oceanography, College of Fisheries, focusing on seaweed processing technologies. She showcased different types of seaweed and their potential for producing various by-products. Notably, she introduced Seaweed Chips and Pickled Seaweeds as products that can be developed from seaweed processing.
Participants learned the necessary ingredients and procedures for creating these products and shared their opinions and suggestions for future topics that could further benefit their businesses and production efforts.
Finally, Ms. Bea Hannah Midtimbang presented the various assistance programs offered by the ministry to improve livelihoods in Tawi-Tawi. She outlined the procedures, requirements, and priority sectors eligible for these programs.
As the Technology Fora Caravan continues its journey, it leaves behind a legacy of knowledge-sharing and innovation, empowering local businesses to thrive in a competitive market.
