Cotabato City – The Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) recently carried out a comprehensive two-day project assessment on July 23-24, 2024, to evaluate the implementation and usage of Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly-Operated KioskS (STARBOOKS) and Science Laboratory Apparatuses in selected schools within Cotabato City.
The assessment, conducted by MOST’s Science Education Section, involved 5,031 beneficiaries, comprising 3,354 females and 1,677 males. The initiative aimed to monitor the impact of these science and technology resources on the educational experience of students.
The evaluation showed promising results, with most laboratory apparatuses being effectively used. Teachers and school personnel reported that equipment such as cell development models and human body system models have significantly boosted student interest in science by providing real-life learning experiences. However, it was noted that three schools have not yet utilized their STARBOOKS units due to the late receipt of the units last school year and the need for formal training for designated Super-Users.
Beneficiaries expressed their gratitude for being prioritized in MOST’s initiatives and voiced their hope for continued support for schools in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
