Marawi City, BARMM — The Ministry of Science and Technology, through the leadership of Minister Aida Silongan, MAPDS, has graced the Mindanao State University’s Technovation Month Launching at the MSU International Convention Center.

On November 9, 2022, Minister Silongan delivered a keynote speech at the said event. She emphasized that the ministry’s programs, projects, and activities (PPAs), along with its Technology Transfer and Commercialization initiatives, ensure the utilization of various innovation and technology research outputs beneficial for the BARMM constituents.

“It bears emphasis that all our programs and projects are in support of Chief Minister Hon. Ahod B. Ebrahim’s direction of producing more Bangsamoro scientists and entrepreneurs that will eventually strengthen the region’s economy.” Minister said.

During the launching event, MOST imparts activity through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing for four (4) research and development project proposals awarded to MSU-Marawi. The project proposals are:

  1. Project Title: Biofloc Technology Application in Nursery Culture of Giant Freshwater Prawn, Macrobrachium rosenbergii

Project Leader: Ma-ann M. Camarin, PhD

  1. Project Title: Policy Analysis for Lake Lanao,

Philippines: A Study of Management Framework and its Implications

Project Leader: Mahid M. Mangontarum

  1. Project Title: Feasibility Study for the Establishment of a Technology Hub in Lanao Del Sur

Project Leader: Maria Stella G. Codas, PhD

  1. Project Title: Organic Sakurab Production and its Product Development

Project Leader: Rashdi M. Casim, PhD

The Technovation Month Celebration is slated with a theme: “Bangsamoro and MSU: Innovating to Preserve the Bangsamoro Heritage”, aimed to showcase different technology and innovation by promoting them in the academe and to the whole Bangsamoro region. It will venture the crafts, products, inventions, and innovations of the Bangsamoro culture, thus preserving its cultural heritage.

The activity created and introduced Bangsamoro cultural and halal products to both emerging and established markets on a national and international scale.

Minister Silongan concluded her remarks by assuring that the Ministry of Science and Technology will continue to unceasingly search for collaboration that will address the pressing needs of the region, as well as to give their best efforts to achieve social and economic development in the Bangsamoro.
