The Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), as the leading agency in the implementation of programs, projects and initiatives related to science, technology and innovations, envisions technologically advanced and improved access to quality education through science and technology scholarship programs, capacity building for science and mathematics teachers, upgrading of science laboratories, among others.

To help concretize one of its core programs and further promote science education in the region, the Ministry has established two cash assistance programs helping students or youth in their educational attainment.

Under the Science Education, Scholarships, and Grants (SESG) of the Ministry, there are three cash assistance programs. These are: Bangsamoro Assistance for Science Education (BASE), Mujahideen/Mujahidat Assistance for Science Education (MASE), and Bangsamoro Assistance for Science Education – Merit (BASE-Merit) Program.

 

A. Bangsamoro Assistance for Science Education (BASE) Program

This platform is a cash assistance-based program applicable only for incoming first-year college students who intend to pursue science and technology courses. Eligible awardees will get monthly cash assistance amounting to P8,000.00 or P40,000.00 per semester.

The application opening is on April 2022, and the examination is in May or June. The official result for the list of BASE grantees is posted in July of the same year at the MOST Official FB Page and MOST Website.

The Ministry will set an online application platform posted during the application opening. Also, an applicant may submit their application through personal submission in the MOST Regional Office located at the Bangsamoro Government Center, Cotabato City or in the Provincial Science and Technology Centers (PSTC) Maguindanao, North Cotabato, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi.

A total of 200 BASE grantees – third batch will be awarded this 2022.

It is the criteria for the BASE Program:

  1. Natural-born Filipino citizen, resident of BARMM at least six months and attained 85% General Average for 1st Semester marks to get qualified for it;
  2. STEM strand senior high school graduating class;
  3. Member of the top five percent (5%) of the Non- STEM strand senior high school graduating class;
  4. Dropped out student due to financial constraint with highly specialized science and technology courses;
  5. Less privileged, a deserving student who belongs to a family whose socio-economic status does not exceed the set values of specific indicators (not more than Php 250,000.00 annual family income or Php 350,000 for more than four children);
  6. Parent/s most recent Income Tax Return / W2 / Employment Contract for OFW / BIR Cert. Of Exemption from Filing of ITR/Brgy. Cert. of Indigency.
  7. Not a recipient of other scholarship programs
  8. Good moral character and in good health;
  9. Do not have any post-secondary or undergraduate units;
  10. Qualifier of MOST Bangsamoro Scholarship Grant Examination

 

B. Mujahideen/Mujahidat Assistance for Science Education (MASE) Program

This platform is also a cash-assistance based program that is open for any level in college (whether you are an incoming 1st-year college student, a second year, a third-year or fourth-year college) who intends to pursue science and technology courses.

It is applicable only for mujahideen or mujahidat or legitimate sons and daughters of mujahideen or mujahidat (Islamic fighters or Muslims who fight on behalf of the faith). Eligible awardees will also get monthly cash assistance amounting to P8,000.00 or P40,000.00 per semester.

One of the required documents to submit on this particular program is a certification from the Unit/Base/Committee/Sector Head of MILF or MNLF certifying that you are a mujahideen/mujahidat or legitimate sons and daughters of mujahideen or mujahidat.

The application is still open, and there is no examination for this program.

A total of 80 MASE grantees will be awarded this 2022.

These are the criteria and requirements for MASE Program:

CRITERIA (QUALIFICATIONS):

  1. They must be a Bangsamoro Filipino citizen.
  2. They must be a mujahideen or mujahidat or a legitimate son or daughter of a mujahideen or mujahid.
  3. They must be taking up any science and technology course (whatever level in college)
  4. They must not be a recipient of any other scholarship, grant or financial subsidy from the government or private sector; and,
  5. They must have at least a grade average based on the following:

5.1. For incoming first-year students – 85% weighted average

5.2. For incoming 2nd year and 3rd-year college – at least passing average and without failing grades.

REQUIREMENTS:

The applicant shall submit at least three (3) of the following documents:

  1. Form 138 for Senior High School graduate
  2. For the 2nd year or higher, they must present their previous grades
  3. Certificate of Live birth (preferably PSA authenticated)
  4. Certification from the Unit/Base/Committee/Sector Head of MILF or MNLF, where applicable.

 

C. Bangsamoro Assistance for Science Education – Merit (BASE-Merit) Program

This program is limited only to S & T highly and specialized courses such as petroleum/oil engineering, chemist, meteorology, metrology, geology, aeronautics, anatomy, and alike. Eligible awardees will get monthly cash assistance amounting to P20,000.00 or P100,000.00 per semester.
