Cotabato City, BARMM – The Bangsamoro Research and Development Council (BRDC) convened its 5th Technical Work Group (TWG) meeting at the BPDA Conference Hall, Bangsamoro Government Center, in this city on March 6, 2024.
The meeting aimed to strengthen research and development in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) and discuss crucial matters regarding R&D updates and initiatives in the region.
During the meeting, crucial topics and discussions were presented to advance R & D progress in BARMM. Among the significant items on the agenda were:
- Updates on the resolution: A Resolution Recommending the Establishment of the Ligawasan Marsh Research and Development Center (LMRDC)
- Updates on the bill: An Act of Strengthening Research and Development on BARMM and Appropriating Funds Thereof
- BRDC Logo Design
- Academe, Industry, and CSO membership application
- Organizing of Committees
- Scientific Career System
- Updates from MOST
- Powers and Functions of the BRDC
- Discussion of other related issues, concerns, suggestions, and recommendations
The event was organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology of the Bangsamoro Government, led by the Presiding Officer, Nasrudin A. Buisan, DiSDS, Director II of the MOST Research and Development Services. He highlighted the importance and existence of Executive Order No. 4 by addressing and strengthening R&D support and initiatives in the region. He also emphasized how the Scientific Career System would eventually help shape the R&D ecosystem, advance human resources, and thereby contribute to R&D sustainability, along with other crucial matters.
Representatives from various ministries and offices attended, demonstrating their collective commitment to advancing the region’s progress through science and technology’s R&D initiatives.Additionally, the proposed agenda for the 5th BRDC meeting is scheduled for April 24, 2024.
The BRDC, operationalizing BARMM’s Executive Order No. 04, series of 2021, serves as a central coordinating body for scientific and technological research across different ministries, agencies, and offices in the BARMM. Collaboration with regional science and technology-oriented organizations, including research institutions and academia, contributes to enhancing the region’s R & D competitiveness and fostering innovation.
