BANGSAMORO, Philippines – This year, the commitment to promote and strengthen the health research collaboration in the region, the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Health Research and Development Consortium and the Ministry of Science and Technology conducted the First Health Research Forum via Zoom Platform. BHRDC, MOST, MOH, academe, institutions, and other region participants attended and participated in the said activity last December 17, 2020. It aims to collaborate between government and stakeholders to address the region’s pressing health needs, encourage other health researchers to disseminate and utilize their research studies and provide research outputs and findings as reference for policy development.

With the theme “BHRDC: Research Initiatives and Responses Amidst the Changing Times, the forum showcases relevant health research outputs of the consortium from various member institutions through a contest. The competition consists of two categories; oral and poster presentations. There were nine (9) researches presented and discussed during the health research forum.

These are the list of winners for poster and oral research presentations. For poster presentation, Mr. Dexter Canalita got the first place with a poster presentation entitled “Phytochemical screening, cytotoxicity, antimicrobial and antioxidant properties of the Crude Extracts from the Leaves of Chrysanthemum coronarium“.

Prof. Hamdoni K. Pangandaman got second place with a poster entitled “Correlates of Staff Nurses Use of Health Information Technology (HIT) in Documentation and Plan of Care in the Specialized Unit of AmaiPakpak Medical Center (APMC)”. Also, Dr. Ashley Bangcola got third place with a poster entitled “Association between Spirituality and Spiritual Well-Being Among Displaced Older Adults in Marawi City”.

For Oral Research presentation, Randy Ian F. Gallego got the first place with oral research entitled “Health Sector’s Level of Capacity, Preparedness And Responsiveness to Address Health-Related Issues during Disaster Emergencies in Lanao Del Sur”. ShiennahLunagJamesula got the second place with oral research entitled “Effectiveness of Breastfeeding Education with Peer Counseling on Enhancing Breastfeeding”.

Prof. Hamdoni K. Pangandaman got third place with an oral research presentation entitled “Perspective of Bachelor of Science in Nursing Students on Online Learning Amidst Pandemic Covid19: An Exploratory Sequential Research”.

The winners received a certificate of recognition and a prize worth PHP 5,000 for the first place, PHP 3,000 for the second place and PHP 2,000 for the third place. Other participants got consolation prizes.

Moreover, the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (DOST-PCHRD) encouraged researchers and other stakeholders to join the “Call for Proposals” next year. It is to showcase another health researches region-wide.

Dr. Michael Macion, Chair of the Research Utilization Committee, closed the activity by congratulating and thanking the participants for the activity’s success and for joining the 1st Health Research Forum in BARMM.
