Advocating to end violence against women and children (VAWC), the Bangsamoro Government’s Ministry of Science and Technology participated in the country’s advocacy campaign to end VAWC by posting tarpaulins, wearing T-shirts, and joining the State of the Bangsamoro Women Address (SBWA) on November 28, 2023, at the Shariff Kabunsuan Cultural Complex (SKCC).
Engr. Abdulrakman Asim, the Bangsamoro Director-General, represented the ministry at SBWA and received the Gadsaligan Award for being second, after the Office of the Chief Minister, in the Gender and Development (GAD) Program Utilization Rate with 22.19%. This recognition was achieved due to its strong advocacy for gender equality and women’s empowerment.
Bearing the theme “United for a VAW-free Philippines,” the activity focused on raising awareness and ending all forms of violence against women and children.
The Bangsamoro Women Commission (BWC) kicked off and spearheaded the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW) on November 25, 2023, with an open-for-all fun run from Cotabato City Plaza to the Bangsamoro Government Center (BGC).
They’ve arranged a sports festival event spanning from November 25 to December 23, 2023, underscoring their dedication to fostering a secure and all-encompassing atmosphere. This initiative contributes to nationwide endeavors in combatting violence against women.
The 18-Day Campaign to End VAW supports the Philippine government’s goal of protecting the human rights of women by upholding its commitment to address all forms of gender-based violence as enshrined in the 1987 Constitution.
Under Republic Act 10398, or the Act declaring November 25 of every year as the National Consciousness Day for the Elimination of VAWC, government agencies are mandated to raise awareness of the problem of violence and the elimination of all forms of violence against women and girls.
