To advance the knowledge and skills of employees about food safety and current good manufacturing practices, approximately 30 Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) employees have undergone advanced training on Food Safety, Current Good Manufacturing Practices, and FDA License to Operate Application from April 16 to 18, 2024.

The activity, held at the Acacia Hotel in Davao City, aimed to further capacitate the ministry’s competent service providers, trainers, and consultants who shall serve as experts in providing food safety-related training.

In her opening remarks, Monawara Abdulbadie, LPT, Chief Science Research Specialist of S & T Services Division, emphasized the importance of training trainers.

“We need to equip ourselves with advanced knowledge and skills about food safety, CGMP, and FDA-LTO Application, and internalize them so we can share them with our MSMEs,” Chief Abdulbadie said.

Meanwhile, Nasrodin U. Buisan, Registered Chemist, Director II of the Technical Management Operation Services, emphasized the rationale of the capacity-building for employees.

“We need to lead food safety in BARMM. To achieve that, we need to be capacitated and equip ourselves with knowledge and skills about food safety, CGMP, and FDA LTO Application. We should understand the regulatory standards and procedures regarding those topics as we impart them to our beneficiaries,” Director Buisan emphasized.

The proficient resource speakers providing the necessary knowledge and skills were Ms. April Thessa Diaz and Mr. Adonis Traje, both food safety experts and consultants.

During the three-day training activity, participants can acquire knowledge and skills on Traceability and Product Recall, Processes and Control of Operations, Cleaning Sanitation and Verification of Food and Non-Food Contact Surfaces, and Food Safety Hazards. There will be a series of workshops and exercises such as individual and group output presentations, oral examinations, and evaluation workshops.

This training workshop is an advanced-level training that will hone and significantly improve the knowledge and skills of participants.

It is expected that in the future these participants will serve as resource persons, consultants, and experts in providing food safety, CGMP, halal awareness, and other food safety-related training in the Bangsamoro region.
