Koronadal City, South Cotabato — Seventeen (17) Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Senior High School, Teachers attended and participated in the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) two-day training for STEM teachers on October 27-28, 2022.

Participants were from STEM schools in Cotabato City, Maguindanao, and North Cotabato – Special Geographic Area.

MOST held the activity with a theme, “Enhancing STEM Teachers’ Pedagogy in BARMM”, that aimed to develop STEM teachers’ digital skills, improve the individuals’ level of awareness in science education, and promote equal access to quality education that supports teachers and learners to become globally competitive in the field of science and technology.

Resource persons were from the Philippine Science High School – SOCCSKSARGEN Region.

In the opening activity, Rocaya G. Edres, LPT, Chief Science Research Specialist, said the training would improve teachers’ teaching methods.

“This is advantageous to you to become an expert in science education digitalization method of teaching and other learning points.” She said.

She also encouraged the participants to re-echo the learning points to their co-teachers and students.

The participants were also thankful for the training provided.

“We appreciate the activity, got a lot of knowledge and information, and will share it with our co-teachers and students.” Reeham M. Mustapha, Teacher III said.

Also, one of the participants added that the activity is crucial as it will address some of their questions and concerns as resource speakers share knowledge and information to help them with matters asked.

On activity day two, the participants visited the Philippine Science High School – SOCCSKSARGEN in Koronadal City to do hands-on experiments in the Biology, Chemistry, and Fabrication Laboratory. It is also to expose them to advanced equipment, conduct laboratory exercises, and capacitate them using other apparatuses and equipment.

One of the topics discussed was strategies for teaching laboratory classes, such as good ways to become efficient in laboratory activities.

It helped the STEM teachers improve their teaching ways by adopting some of the laboratory procedures in PSHS.

STEM teachers said that the learning points from the two-day training have improved their knowledge and skills and would share them with their co-teachers and apply it to their teaching methods.
