BANGSAMORO – The Ministry of Science and Technology will be celebrating its 1st Regional Science and Technology Week (RSTW) on December 1 to 3, 2021 at the Shariff Kabunsuan Cultural Complex (SKCC), Bangsamoro Government Center, Cotabato City.
BARMM Chief Minister Ahod A. Balawag, DOST Secretary Fortunato Dela Peña, MOH Minister Bashary A. Latiph, MBHTE Minister Mohagher Iqbal, Bangsamoro Mufti Shiek Abuhuraira Udasan, BARMM R & D Agenda members, BARMM ministries and offices’ representatives, Science and Technology Services beneficiaries, Bangsamoro Assistance for Science Education (BASE) grantees, MOST employees, and other participants are expected to attend and participate in the said event.
With the theme: “AGHAM AT TEKNOLOHIYA: TUGON SA HAMON NG PANAHON”, MOST-BARMM will be hosting various activities to highlight and showcase MOST’s initiatives and programs to the public. It also aims to promote science and technology endeavors to support the region’s economic growth despite the challenges of the time.
There will be a launching of programs and projects of the ministry, a series of webinars, fora, quiz bee, and discussions conducted by each ministry section.
MOST will launch the BARMM Harmonized Research and Development Agenda and the Bangsamoro Halal Standards Testing Laboratories (BHSTL).
Launching the programs mentioned above and projects will showcase the ministry’s aim to introduce and promote the research and development agenda in the region. It will highlight the agenda’s different programs, such as the Call for Proposals and other activities. MOST will also launch the BHSTL to inform the public of its Halal standard services and other upcoming services.
The ministry will also turn over ten (10) units of RxBox telemedicine devices to the Ministry of Health (MOH) during the RSTW’s opening program. The latter will identify the Rural Health Units (RHUs) in the region that will receive the said telemedicine boxes.
As part of the celebration, the 1st BARMM – Regional Invention Contest and Exhibits are also slated in the BARMM’s 1st RSTW to showcase different research and inventions of Bangsamoros inventive capability through a form of competition for cash incentives, awards, and bragging rights.
MOST’s Science and Technology Services (STS) will spearhead different webinars helping people, especially those engaged in food manufacturing, adhere to food safety, current good manufacturing practices and halal compliance. It will also discuss food packaging and labeling requirements where Micro, Small, Medium Enterprises could learn the appropriate packaging and labeling for their products.
Moreover, webinars on solid waste management, e-marketing platform, covid-19 response, and price monitoring are also slated on the second-day of the event.
The Science Education, Scholarships, Grants, and Awards (SESGA) section will conduct an oath-taking and awarding of BASE Grantees 2nd Batch slated on the 3rd day of the event. It will follow with the turn-over of STARBBOOKS, a digital library, and a turn-over of Senior High School Science Laboratory Apparatus for the identified SHS.
Also, one of the highlights of the third-day activity is the oath-taking of MOST newly hired employees for 2021.
Additionally, a quiz-bee before the event’s week will be conducted by SESGA. An update regarding the criteria and other information regarding the activity will be posted on MOST Official FB Page.
The NSTW is an annual celebration that highlights the significant contributions of science and technology to national development and has become a platform for heralding S&T advocacy in the country.
