The Ministry of Science and Technology – Bangsamoro Standards Halal Testing Laboratories (MOST-BSHTL) achieved satisfactory results for passing the proficiency testing on FNRI PT 21-02 (Infant Formula). The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and Food and Nutrition Research Institute – Proficiency Testing Laboratory (FNRI-PTL) organized the said testing activity.
Ms. Gladys Paglinawan, BSHTL’s Physico-Chemical Laboratory Head and Amerrah Matanog, Laboratory Assistant, performed the proficiency testing on August 25, 2021, at BSHTL, Bangsamoro Government Center, Cotabato City.
The objective of the proficiency testing is to evaluate the performance of participating laboratories in the analysis of proximates (moisture, fat, protein, and ash) of infant formula through an interlaboratory comparison and provide a basis for laboratory improvement, where needed.
It will also guarantee the public that MOST-BARMM’s Physico-Chemical Laboratory is competent in providing test analysis. The test was also conducted to determine the analyst’s competence if they performed the proficiency testing accurately and if laboratory equipment shows correct results.
MOST-BSHTL submitted the PT results last August 5, 2021, and recently received the final PT report with a satisfactory result.
The FNRI PT 21-02 (Infant Formula) FNRI PT 21-02 includes evaluation of laboratory performance in the analysis of proximate (moisture, fat, protein, ash) and minerals (calcium, sodium, potassium, iron, and zinc) in Infant Formula through an interlaboratory comparison. Each participant laboratory will be supplied with one pack of 50g samples to be analyzed using applicable routine methods. The homogeneity and stability test analyses of the proficiency test items were analyzed by an ISO/IEC 17025:2005 accredited subcontracting laboratory.
The FNRI Service Laboratory (FNRI-SL) also conducts PT on processed meat, powdered concentrate – water-based flavor drink, groundnuts, wheat flour where MOST-BSHTL participated in the infant formula PT round.
