Lanao del Sur, BARMM — The Bangsamoro Government’s Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) evaluated five (5) cooperatives in this province on March 15-17, 2023.

MOST Regional Technical Evaluation Committee’s (RTEC) primary purpose was to assess the cooperatives on what S & T interventions are appropriate for their organization and determine their specific needs. It was also to provide support on what specific programs they might be supported under the Technology Transfer and Commercialization Program (TTCP) and Bangsamoro Empowerment through Science and Technology (BEST).

The cooperatives evaluated were Minanga Marketing Cooperative with Bakery Products, Basecom Apia Networks Producer Cooperative with Maranao Sweetened Products, Sunrise Sevice Cooperative with Maranao Weaving Products, Kamapian Sa Tagoranao Marketing Cooperative with Cacao Products, and Sasas Frozen Producer Cooperative with Frozen Products.

These cooperatives submitted a letter of intent to Provincial Science and Technology Centers, and the latter conducted a Technology Needs Assessment to check and assess the existence and operation of the cooperatives. It was followed by RTEC conducted by committee members Bea Hannah Kashmira Midtimbang – Science Research Specialist II, and Aleyyah G. Abdul – SRS I together with PSTC – Lanao del Sur headed by Engr. Alinader Saranggani, Provincial Director and his team Noralyn Impa, Nor Ain Macalabang, and An-Nafi Saranggani.

Based on the evaluation, the five coops will benefit from TTCP or BEST program of the ministry. TTCP is for the existing cooperatives, which will receive technology training, provision of processing equipment, assistance to FDA License to Operate, halal testing services, and more. This is to provide a competitive, quality product that adheres to Good Manufacturing Practices and is Halal-compliant. On the other hand, BEST beneficiaries are those starting groups or cooperatives who will receive technology training and some processing equipment to establish their business.
