COTABATO CITY — In cooperation with the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management (NDRRMC) through the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD), the Bangsamoro Government’s Ministry of Science and Technology joined the second quarter nationwide earthquake drill on June 9, 2022, performing the “duck, cover, and hold” via Zoom and Facebook Live online platform.

MOST-BARMM Regional and Provincial employees participated in the earthquake drill in their respective offices. The said activity would anticipate and prepare employees when an incident might happen during office hours as calamities are unavoidable and people across ages, gender, and civil status can be victims. It is also to prepare the community and reduce disaster risks.

The ceremonial pressing of the siren button started the online drill, followed by the conduct of duck, cover, and hold.

In a statement, Minister Aida Silongan highlighted that everyone should be prepared, alert, and act according to the first line of protection, avoiding risks and mitigate its effects.

“We should be prepared at all times, it is our way to be ready and safeguard ourselves whenever a natural disaster might occur anytime.” Minister said.

The ministry encouraged the public to participate, observe and be aware of the first line of safety when an earthquake strikes by participating in the government’s efforts to mitigate the risk of disasters, such as participating in the phases of drill by watching on the official FB Page of NDRRMC and Civil Defense PH, and other upcoming drills for 2022.

Furthermore, there will be another drill to set in the coming quarter of the year to be well aware of the role of everyone in enforcing protection and decreasing casualties/injuries amidst disaster.

The NSED is a quarterly exercise undertaken to enhance the earthquake preparedness of local government units, line agencies, and other government instrumentalities and educate the general public about earthquake and preparedness measures should an earthquake occur.

Advocacy campaign and call for all that everyone should be prepared anytime and participate in the programs and activities which aim to strengthen the readiness of the community and families for earthquake threats and other natural calamities.

The observance of the quarterly NSED is in accordance with Republic Act No. 10121 or the “Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction Management Act of 2010”.
