As partners on providing scholarship assistance to deserving students through the implementation of the Science & Technology Scholarship Programs, the Ministry of Science and Technology – Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (MOST-BARMM) and the Department of Science and Technology – Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) conducted a virtual orientation on DOST-SEI 2021 S & T Undergraduate Scholarship for qualifiers through Zoom Platform on October 6, 2021. The activity aims to orient qualifiers about the 2021 S & T Undergraduate Scholarship Program and its benefits.
According to DOST-SEI, there are fifty-one (51) qualifiers in BARMM who successfully qualified for the 2021 S & T Undergraduate Scholarship Program for Merit Scholarship Program, RA 7687 Scholarship Program, and Junior Level Science Scholarship Program. In BARMM, many students had applied in the scholarship program, but only 51 qualified for the application screened by DOST-SEI Screening and Advisory Committee.
Minister Aida Silongan congratulated the qualifiers who have applied for the scholarship program and motivated students that choosing the scholarship program would help their 4-year studies in college.
“You are among the few who belong to this noble program and more importantly the coveted chance to join this scholarship. We are happy that you decided to join and qualify for this great program. Congratulations! As you will sign soon the contract of agreement, you made the correct choice and you are on the right track.” Rocaya Edres said on behalf of Minister Silongan, who was in the turn-over of processing equipment and MOA signing ceremony in Basilan.
Rocaya G. Edres, MOST’s Science Education, Scholarships, Grants, and Awards (SESGA) Head, presented the scholarship policies and informed the qualifiers about signing the contract process.
“If at this point you have fully understood the terms and conditions of the Undergraduate Scholarship programs and decided to become DOST-SEI scholars, you and your parent may sign the four copies of the scholarship agreement which will be provided to you through the scholar’s portal and return all signed copies to DOST-SEI immediately, together with the other documents required of you, for signing by the DOST-SEI Director. You will receive a copy of your notarized Scholarship Agreement thereafter. The information requested in this part is already indicated in the scholarship agreement that will be provided to you. Please be reminded to affix your signature on the space provided on each page of the scholarship agreement.” Edres reiterated during the orientation.
The following are the scholarship privileges that qualifiers will receive during their actual period of study: tuition and other school fees worth P40,000.00/academic year, book allowance worth P10,000.00/academic year, stipend worth P10,000.00/month, clothing, transportation, group incident insurance, thesis allowance, and graduation allowance.
DOST-SEI Undergraduate Scholarship Program aims to stimulate and entice talented Filipino youths to pursue lifetime productive careers in science and technology and ensure a steady, adequate supply of qualified S&T human resources which can steer the country towards national progress. It has two programs: The DOST-SEI Merit Scholarship Program, formerly known as the NSDB or NSTA Scholarship under RA No. 2067 awarded to students with high aptitude in science and mathematics and are willing to pursue careers in the fields of science and technology, and the Republic Act No. 7687, also known as the “Science and Technology Scholarship Act of 1994”, provides for scholarships to talented and deserving students whose families’ socio-economic status does not exceed the set cut-off values of specific indicators. Qualifiers must pursue priority fields of study in the basic sciences, engineering, other applied sciences, and science and mathematics teaching.
