I. Situation Overview
On June 20, 2023, at 07:00 PM, Mindanao PAGASA Regional Services Division (PRSD) issued Heavy Rainfall Warning No. 1 due to the current Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) affecting Mindanao. The advisory included the provinces of Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, Maguindanao del Sur, and the SGA clusters in the BARMM.
General Flood Advisories (GFA) for the region were also issued by DOST-PAGASA, due to the heavy rainfall. The said advisories indicated that the current weather disturbance may affect some of the river systems, particularly in Lanao del Sur and the Maguindanao provinces as well as can trigger flashfloods.
Various LGUs within the abovementioned provinces reported having experienced heavy rains following the advisories issued by PAGASA. This resulted in flashflood incidents that affected families residing in low-lying and flood-prone areas. The inclement weather persisted until June 21, 2023, and Heavy Rainfall Warning advisories were again issued by Mindanao PRSD which still included the same provinces and/or areas in BARMM.
