The Halal Verification Laboratory (HVL) of the Bangsamoro Standards and Halal Testing Laboratories (BSHTL) conducted a Proficiency Test (PT) on Porcine DNA in Beef provided by FAPAS, an international proficiency testing provider. The result was received last July 6, 2021, with a satisfactory result.

Ms. Rugaya Abdullah, RCh, Halal Laboratory Head of the Ministry of Science and Technology, performed the proficiency testing with Nasrodin Buisan, RCh, Acting Bangsamoro Director-General, and Rahima Sumagka, Laboratory Analyst.

“I am glad that we performed the PT in BARMM’s HVL with satisfactory result recently, it boosts our assurance as an analyst here in the laboratory that the test analysis we conduct is accurate. We will conduct more tests and accomplish our targets for this year.” Abdullah said.

The satisfactory result indicates that the test provided by FAPAS for BSHTL’s HVL has passed as the latter’s processes, methods, and equipment are in optimum condition. It will guarantee the public that MOST-BARMM’s HVL is competent in providing test analysis.

The test was also conducted to determine the analyst’s competence if they performed the proficiency testing accurately and if laboratory equipment shows correct results.

The conduct of PT is also a requirement of ISO/IEC 17025:2017, where BSHTL is targeting to be ISO accredited.

Proficiency testing determines the performance of laboratories and analysts for specific tests or measurements and is used to monitor laboratories’ continuing performance. Qualitative data are denoted as satisfactory or unsatisfactory based on the presence or absence of porcine DNA

in each test material.
