In a bid to provide scholarship programs for Bangsamoro students, the Ministry of Science and Technology has scheduled the Orientation and Contract Signing for the Bangsamoro Assistance for Science Education (BASE) and BASE-Merit Official Grantees for this month of August 2023.

On July 24, 2023, MOST unveiled the list of potential qualifiers for the aforementioned scholarship programs, with 200 for the BASE and 110 for BASE-Merit grantees set to sign a contract this August 2023.

Mr. Alimudin Kandang, Supervising Senior Science Research Specialist of the Scholarship Division, which was accompanied by Engr. Shariff Molzir Bernan, Senior SRS, shared during the orientation and contract signing in Maguindanao that the ministry has expedited the processing of scholarships for students in order to support them at the beginning of the 2023 1st semester.

“We have set August 2023 for the Orientation and Contract Signing of our BASE and BASE-Merit Grantees in order to process their scholarships and provide them with cash assistance to support them at the beginning of the 2023-2024 semestral class.”

Today, on August 17, 2023, sixty-two (62) official grantees from Maguindanao signed a contract with MOST. The event took place at Cocina Isabella Restaurant in Cotabato City and was facilitated by the Provincial S & T Center – Maguindanao, led by Engr. Yasser Datucali.

Additionally, thirty-seven (37) official grantees from North Cotabato – Special Geographic Area signed a contract at the MOST PSTC Office, as confirmed by their Provincial Director, Ms. Fatima Kadil.

“We are pleased that our grantees in this province have formally entered into a contract to receive support throughout their educational journey,” Kadil stated.

She also added that the students were thoroughly briefed about the terms and conditions outlined in the contract, including the duration of the scholarship programs, study placement, obligations, supervision, and other relevant details.

During the Maguindanao contract signing, Mr. Kandang emphasized that MOST retains the right to terminate the scholarship program for grantees who fail to maintain the required passing grade, do not comply with the terms and conditions of the agreement, or fail to submit periodic reports for two (2) consecutive semesters.

Furthermore, other MOST provincial centers will also conduct orientation and contract signing sessions for grantees in Lanao del Sur, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi throughout this month.

Following the contract signing, the grantees are scheduled to take an oath in September 2023 during the Bangsamoro S & T Week celebration in Cotabato City. Grantees from the island provinces will take their oath at the respective MOST Provincial Centers.
