Basilan, BARMM — Three (3) cooperatives in the municipalities of Al-Barka, Maluso, and Ungkaya Pukan benefited from the Technology Training provided by the Bangsamoro Government’s Ministry of Science and Technology from November 7 to November 10, 2022.

 

The training aims to equip cooperatives with technical knowledge and ideas on processing raw materials and turning them into marketable products.

 

Also, the conducted training helped the beneficiaries with the standard food processing procedure based on the Department of Science and Technology – Industrial Technology Development Institute (DOST-ITDI) standards.

 

In a statement, Minister Aida Silongan encouraged the beneficiaries to continually equip themselves with the knowledge that will enhance their capacity to improve their products and make them profitable.

 

“This technology training provided for you will help your organization develop marketable products and provide big profit.” Minister Silongan said.

 

The cooperatives that benefited from the said training were Apil-Apil Fishermen Cooperative, Maluso Bangsamoro Agri Aqua Farmers and Producers Cooperative, and Ulitan BM Fishermen Cooperative.

 

They were all engaged in fish processing.

 

Resource persons were Ms. Bea Midtimbang, Science Research Specialist II, and Ms. Aleyyah Abdul, Science Research Specialist I.

 

They taught the cooperatives techniques for making dried fish based on the food processing standards.

 

Also, MOST trained the cooperatives on standard packaging and appropriate product labeling.  

 

MOST continues capacitating micro, small, and medium enterprises in the Bangsamoro region and promoting safe and quality food products. It is also to strengthen the Halal industry to boost the region’s economy through the intervention of science and technology.
